High gasoline prices are cutting into the profits of all businesses that provide limousine services.
Independent contract drivers for ABC Door 2 Door Transportation Services, a limousine service, typically travel 500 to 600 miles a day to airports in Greensboro, Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham. Owner Tadeffe Endalk has been eating his costs to avoid losing customers, but he will have to do something to survive if regular unleaded gasoline reaches $4 a gallon. I'm breaking even - Endalk said. He said that his drivers want him to follow competitors and raise prices now. With gas around $4 a gallon, where's your profit? He said that high gas prices have also affected his profits as an owner of several limo companies. At the pump, the national average price of a gallon of regular gas rose 1.8 cents overnight to $3.78, according to a survey of stations by AAA and the Oil Price Information Service. Average prices are 67 cents higher than a year ago, and many analysts say they think that they could rise as high as $4 nationwide in coming weeks. Consumers in many areas are already paying that much, or more. |
