UNSAVORY WEBMASTERS....HAVE YOU CHECKED YOURS LATELY......? Unfortunately there has yet to be developed a governing body for webmasters. Maybe we should try to get one started! Webmasters are in a very, very trusted position. Many of us know our business, but don't know the web business. We pay an auto body man to handle our cars, we pay our banker to handle our money and we pay our webmaster to handle our interests on our websites.....but are they?
When was the last time you checked your URL to see if it belonged to you? Has your webmaster politely told you that he would take care of renewing your domain name for you as a courtesy if you will just give him your password and login name? Has he or she asked you for your login and password so they can change your nameservers to their nameservers for hosting, when you have signed up with them? DON'T DO IT...DO IT YOURSELF! Better go check: Here's how... Go to www.godaddy.com once you are there, type in your domain name (URL). Once it comes up and says this name is already taken, click here to see who owns or who is. Click it, and it will show you who owns your domain. If it says anyone but you....you should follow up on it. Also check and see who is the "technical contact" this could be a problem for you later. You want your name on that too! Please, please follow up this! So many of our fellow limousine operators have found out that they have lost their domain names and companies to an unsavory webmaster.
