UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICES - MEARS - ORLANDO! A federal investigation has been launched into unfair labor practices, including driver's claims that they were unfairly singled out by Mears for taking part in a protest and strike earlier this month at City Hall. The cab drivers had their tag numbers and vehicle numbers taken while protesting and later Mears suspended or terminated the leases with those drivers. This is illegal since Mears does not "employ" cab drivers, but they are independent contractors and therefore does not provide them with any benefits. Mears holds a monopoly in the city of Orlando for cabs and has many complaints against them for unfair practices with their independent contractors. copyright 2008
