Google phone – Limo Ready As an iPhone owner I was curious as to what the first cell phone running Google Inc.'s mobile software looks like. To my surprise (not) it’s very similar to my Apple Inc.'s iPhone and has the same large size touch screen, but it also includes a new trackball interface, and a slide-out keyboard (WOW) this is nice… Plus, They made it easy access all of Google's e-mail and mapping programs. As a Owner/Driver I find this to be our next step in the limousine industry technology age.
Google made its debut as a cell phone software provider on Tuesday at an event where wireless carrier T-Mobile announced the G1 phone is scheduled to hit U.S. stores Oct. 22. And at $179, the G1 is $20 less than the least expensive iPhone in the U.S. So far the phone will be sold by T-Mobile in stores only in the U.S. This will also ONLY be available in cities where the company has installed its faster, third-generation wireless data network. T-Mobile has promised that there will be 21 cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Houston and Miami. Our understanding is that in other areas, people will be able to buy the phone from T-Mobile's Web site. The phone does work on T-Mobile's slower data network, but it's optimized for the faster networks. It can also connect at Wi-Fi hotspots. This is great when waiting for airport arrivals as we can monitor and track our customers flight status for our Sedan, SUV or Limousine. The data plan for the phone will cost $25 per month on top of the existing calling service T-Mobile currently offers. The mobile phone industry, which sells 1 billion units a year worldwide, must have been seen as a tremendous opportunity for Google as they venture into this industry.Google is also giving away Android, the software that underlies the G1, for free, and opening the operating system to third-party developers who can create their own programs. Google hopes that in turn, mobile phones will provide even more ways for people to interact with the company's advertising network. As for our use in the limousine field it has potential to outshine the iPhone in the months to come… |
