POLICE are searching for a limousine driver who killed a seven-year-old boy in a hit-and- run accident.

POLICE are searching for a limousine driver who killed a seven-year-old boy in a hit-and- run accident.

Schoolboy Kurt Lynn died after he was knocked down by the car as he played in the street near his Livingston home.

Witnesses reported seeing the car swerve before it hit the boy, who is thought to have run into its path.

He was taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh where he died shortly after arrival.

Police last night said they had recovered the vehicle, but appealed for help to trace its driver.

Last night, Amanda Wilson, the boy's grandmother, made an appeal, urging the driver to come forward.

The chef, 47, of Livingston, West Lothian, was reported as saying: "I can't believe someone could hit my grandson and just drive off, leaving him to die in the middle of the road. How could you not stop for a child? The driver must have realised they had hit Kurt.

"People are saying it was a limousine that hit Kurt and I know the kids chase after these big cars when they see them.

"The driver has to come forward and admit what they've done as a wonderful little boy has been lost."

She described how his dinner was on the table and she was about to shout for him to come in from playing with a group of friends when she got news that he was lying on the road on Saturday evening.

The boy's parents were understood to be too upset to speak.

Inspector Grant Allan of Lothian and Borders Police said: "We have had some helpful information and are following a positive line of inquiry.

"Nevertheless, we would still like to hear from anyone else who may have seen anything connected with the incident or has any relevant information."

Friends and neighbours paid tribute to the schoolboy, who was a Primary 3 pupil at Letham Primary School in Livingston.

Maureen Irvine, 62, who lives only yards away from the scene of Kurt's death, said that she had heard a loud thump sometime after 6pm, as if someone had hit her front door, but she did not go to investigate at the time.

It was later suggested that a group of children, including Kurt, had been knocking doors and running away shortly before the accident.

A few minutes later she saw police car lights and went outside to see what was happening.

"All I could see was a child's trainer lying on the grass," Mrs Irvine said. "What happened to the wee boy is a tragedy."

Cheryl Ure, 32, who lived nearby, spoke of her disbelief at what happened.

She said: "My son is in Kurt's sister's class and he seemed like a lovely little boy.

"I can't believe what has happened to him. You never think you're going to have to tell your kids their friend has been killed.

"I'm disgusted that the driver didn't even stop."

Yesterday, a stream of family, friends and well-wishers visited a growing shrine by the roadside, near the spot where Kurt was killed.

They brought teddy bears and other stuffed toys, Rangers, Celtic and Chelsea football tops, lit candles and laid flowers and written tributes.

"RIP wee man, you will be sadly missed, from your friend Nathan," read one, while another from his aunt, said: "Can't believe what happened. My wee nephew Kurt, you will always be missed and never forgotten."

Elsewhere in Scotland two other pedestrians were killed in separate crashes over the weekend.

In East Kilbride, Nathan Schofield, 18, was killed after being knocked down by a bus shortly before midnight on Saturday night.

A man in his early twenties was also killed after being hit by a car outside Fraserburgh early yesterday morning.
